This single-family home located on the outskirts of Madrid is the result of a fruitful relationship with the client. The project was developed over several years until it materialized.

The house, a dwelling place, is inspired by one of its archetypes, the pre-Hellenic megaron. The temeno, the atrium, the patio and the home are present in the concept of the house. This continues outside: the loggia, the pond, the backyard and the garden are placed in a sequence of parallel spaces that evoke characteristics of oriental culture.

The lower floor is divided into two areas connected by the patio. A winding staircase gives leads to the upper level where the bedrooms are located and to the basement where it expands into the children’s playroom.

Outside, the megaron is formalized in an encompassing limestone gesture that shelters the entire program. The materials play a chiaroscuro to accompany their environment, while the stained wood softens the abstraction. Retractable and theatrical backdrops compartmentalize the open plan. The house is a stage transformed by its inhabitants according to their daily needs and dressed in rugs, furniture, textiles and leathers.

Thus, a dialogue is established between the ancestor and everyday life, between the archetype and the comfort that constitutes the leitmotiv of the project and which has always been the essence of living.
